Dan Cariou, the creative mind behind Friends & Family tattoo Club has joined our team! Tattooer and self proclaimed obsessive tattoo historian, Dan loves what he does. “I’ve been obsessed with art for as long as I can remember, and tattooing has been my creative focus for the past decade. My obsession with tattooing and tattoo culture started early on in life. Growing up in the 90s with parents who worked in commercial art, tattoos were all around me”. After multiple years working as a mural painter under his father, Dan moved on to many different rolls as an artist and took on apprenticeships in soft sculpture and airbrushing. “Tattooing was a natural evolution from the art world I grew up around. ”After a long period pursuing other creative trades, Dan shifted direction to find an apprenticeship in tattoo “I knew in the back of my mind that eventually my focus would turn to tattoos and tattoo history, and around age 22 it did.” He began reading books on tattoo history and shifted his art focus on learning to draw tattoo styled art. By age 26 he had found an apprenticeship at a busy street shop in Kelowna that taught him the fundamentals of what makes a great tattoo. “ Whether it’s bold American traditional designs, intricate Japanese motifs, or hyper-realistic pieces, I love working in styles that bring timeless artistry and creativity to life on the skin.
“I’m committed to crafting tattoos that continue to respect tattoo traditions while innovating and growing as an artist. I believe in creating tattoos that reflect the person who wears them.
